Pizza Pairings: Tutti Carne with LagerShed Dark

Before we get started with our delicious pairing recommendation, this is our first blog post and we would like to thank you for joining us and being one of the first to read our new blog. This space will be dedicated to offering insight into the world of pizza, pasta and everything else Italian food, to share stories about like-minded businesses in the Dundas area, and to showcase some of the work we do behind the scenes. At Red Door Cucina we love to pair our food with other dishes and especially with drinks. We love our food and understand that it can be amplified by the right accompanying beverage. Today’s little combination is our Tutti Carne pizza with local brewers, Shawn & Ed’s LagerShed Dark.

Tutti Carne simply translates as all meat, and that’s what this pizza is all about. With meatballs, sausage, salami and pepperoni, we have a full class of delicious proteins that are full of flavour and saltiness. This is one of our favourites, and is perfect for those who like a smokiness to their pizza. It’s full flavoured toppings work perfectly with our light and fresh base.

With the combination of smokiness and strong flavours, a hearty, dark beer is exactly what you need to compliment it. We are big fans of Shawn & Ed’s Brewery (you will probably see their name pop up in this blog on a regular basis) and their lagers are some of the best in the province. They are situated in Dundas, ON and occupy one of the most interesting and historic buildings in the area. You must go and visit once we are able to congregate in such areas again. Their dark lager is an ideal partner to our Tutti Carne, its cocktail of caramel, roasted nuts and chocolate make for a dark and flavourful beverage. This combined with its surprisingly light body means that it won’t overpower the pizza but sit perfectly alongside it.
